Is prostitution wrong? The answer is complicated. In the uncertainty of our century, it is hard to sometimes to distinguish prostitution from, say, consentual one night stands. However, the issue here in the scandal surrounding the actions of Elliot Spitzer is not whether prostitution is wrong or not. It is not whether he was morally obligated to his wife.
Spitzer ordered escort service to the Mayflower Hotel from the exubarently priced escort service, the Emperors Club VIP, for which he paid about $4,000.00. Spitzer Spent two and a half hours with beautiful Ashley Alexandra Dupré, according to a Federal affidavit.
Spitzer was known for his toughness as an attorney general. He helped bring down and prosecuted 2 prostitution rings himself. What naked hipocricy. The argument that Spitzer should be allowed to seperate his political life from his personal life is absurd. What will happen next? Our presidents, teachers, governors, congress members, our role models and law makers will be doing drugs in their “off” time, maybe commiting rape, or murder, maybe stealing money… but it is their right. And when they get back to their offices, they will prosecute others zealously for the very same things.
If you put yourself out there as a public officer, a role model, a maker and keaper of our law, you ought to practice what you preach. You ought to believe in it. You ought to live it, breath it, be it. There are many other jobs available out there. Politics is not for anyone, it is not for the faint hearted, it is not for those who put temptation ahead of the dignity of their constituents. period.
It is quiet disgusting that Spitzer attempted to work things out in effort to avoid resignation. He called the event a “private matter”. Clearly, he is a public figure and what he does as a role model affects everyone, including our children. I am glad he resigned. He deserves to be out of public office. As my governor for a few more days, I am proclaiming my opinion: I am disgusted in you, Spitzer. Not because Prostitution is illegal, but because you preached against it, and you are one stupid hipocrit!
